ATHENA titanium Intake Valve for KTM, HUSABERG and HUSQVARNA 2007-2013

The ATHENA titane VI-270207T intake valve is designed for KTM EXC 400, EXC 450, EXC 500, EXC 530, EXCF 450, XCW 400, XCW 450, XCW 500, XCW 530, HUSABERG FE 390, FE 450, FE 501, FE 570, FS 570, FX 450 and HUSQVARNA FE 450, FX 450 from 2007 to 2013. The intake valve lets the air-fuel mixture into the chamber, then closes to hold the compression. As a valve wears and sinks into its seat, the valve clearance disappears: the engine starts badly, loses power and the valve eventually stops closing.

When to replace it?

• Valve clearance closing up from one check to the next.
• Hard hot starting, loss of compression.
• Marked valve face or cupped valve when removed.

As soon as the valve clearance no longer holds between two checks. Always replace the valves on the same side together and have the seats recut.

Fitting tips

1. Have the valve seats recut and check the guides.
2. Don't lap a coated titanium valve with grinding paste: it would destroy the coating.
3. Fit new valve stem seals and check the springs.
4. Set the valve clearance with valve shims if needed, then check it again after the first few hours.
5. Refit with a valve cover gasket in good condition.

Do both valves need replacing?
Yes, intake valves are usually replaced as a pair to keep the engine running evenly.

Titanium or steel?
Titanium is much lighter: the valve train copes better with high revs. Steel is more tolerant of wear and is perfectly suited to leisure riding; don't mix the two materials without following the manufacturer's recommendations (springs).
