The Athena S410270015018 valve cover gasket seals the cover that closes the top of the engine, above the camshaft and valves. It fits the 2019-2023 KTM group 450 and 500 cc four-strokes: KTM 450 SX-F, 450 XC-F, 450 EXC-F, 500 EXC-F and 450 XCF-W, Husqvarna FC 450, FX 450, FS 450, FE 450 and FE 501, GasGas MC 450F and EX 450F.

Why replace it?

The valve cover comes off at every valve clearance check. Heat and repeated removal make the gasket harden, flatten or get pinched. The top end then starts to seep, the oil traps dust and the engine gets dirty. Fitting a new gasket on reassembly costs little and saves you from stripping everything again for a leak.

Fitting tips

1. Clean the cover groove and the cylinder head face without scratching them: they must be clean and dry.
2. Lay the gasket flat in its groove, without twisting or stretching it, so it does not get pinched when tightening.
3. Do not coat the gasket with sealant: if your workshop manual calls for a dab of sealant at specific points, follow it.
4. Tighten the cover bolts gradually in a cross pattern, to the torque specified by the manufacturer.
5. After the first warm-up, check that there is no seepage.
