It brings together the intake and exhaust camshafts, designed to work as a pair: you change the whole valve timing in one job and pay 5% less than buying both cams separately.

Why go Stage 1?

Stage 1 is the easiest upgrade to live with: the cam profiles open the valves slightly longer to fill the engine from bottom to mid-range. The bike pulls harder out of corners, throttle response is crisper and it stays easy to ride. It is the right choice for enduro, trail riding or anyone who wants more torque without losing rideability. The cams fit with the stock springs.

What gain can you expect?

In practice you gain drive and punch where you ride the most, and the engine keeps that character for the life of the cams. The gain is greatest with a clean air filter, an exhaust in good condition and well-set carburation or fuel injection.

Why buy both camshafts together?

The intake and exhaust camshafts are designed as a pair: fitting one tuned cam with the other stock only gives part of the gain. With the pack you strip the head once, time the engine once and save 5% on the price of both cams.

Why choose HOT CAMS?

Hot Cams is the American off-road camshaft specialist. Its cams are machined from 8620 steel and case-hardened to resist wear, and every profile is developed and proven on the dyno. Their ITR (Improved Throttle Response) lobes open the valves faster for instant throttle response.

Fitting: what you need

• A new valve cover gasket: it crushes when tightened and cannot be reused. An old gasket lets oil weep onto the hot head. See the valve cover gasket for your bike.
• Follow the cam timing marks and check the valve clearance after fitting, then again after the first hours of riding.
• Use the strip-down to check the cam chain, its tensioner and slippers.
• A more aggressive cam may need the carburation or fuel-injection map fine-tuned.

Cross-Mania tip: work on a cold engine with the piston at top dead centre on the compression stroke, and tighten the cam caps gradually in a cross pattern to the workshop manual torque.
