      When to replace it?

      • Damaged thread or stretched bolt after several tightenings.
      • Rusty bolt or nut, marked head.
      • Hardware lost or mismatched during a strip-down.

      When fitting a cylinder kit, or as soon as a bolt or stud is damaged: a stretched bolt no longer holds its torque.

      Fitting tips

      1. Clean the threads in the crankcase and cylinder before assembly.
      2. Lightly oil the threads, unless the manufacturer says otherwise.
      3. Tighten in a criss-cross pattern, in several stages, to the torque given in the Athena instructions or the workshop manual.
      4. Reassemble with a new top end gasket kit.
