When to replace it?

• Lip hardened, split or coming away, seal moving in its housing.
• Water or mud inside the hub when you take the wheel out.
• Wheel bearings that are rusty or quickly develop play.

Replace the seals every time you change the bearings, and as soon as they are damaged. In motocross and enduro in the mud, check them every time the wheel comes out.

Fitting tips

1. Remove the wheel and side spacers, then lever under the seal with a screwdriver with a protected tip, without marking the hub.
2. Clean the housing and check the spacer: a scored or rusty sealing surface wears out the new lip.
3. Pack the lip with waterproof grease and press the seal in perfectly flat, flush with the hub, using a socket of the same diameter.
4. Refit the spacers and the wheel, then torque the axle to the figure in the manual.

Only if the wheel has play or a bearing turns with tight spots: in that case, change the wheel bearings. Otherwise, new seals are enough to protect healthy bearings.
