The center electrode is made of the precious metal IRIDIUM and is laser-welded. It is thinner ( 0.6mm compared to 2.5mm for the standard plug).  This results in a much higher-quality spark, better combustion, and a much more responsive engine. The fact that it ignites the fuel more effectively also helps prevent carbon buildup. As a result, the engine gets much less clogged.
