When to replace it?
- Clutch that drags or judders, neutral hard to find with the engine hot.
- Plates blued, glazed or marked at the tabs.
- Warpage out of tolerance, measured with a feeler gauge on a surface plate (or a sheet of glass).
Every time you replace the friction plates, if the steel plates are warped or blued, and after a bad bout of clutch slip.
Fitting tips
- Oil the plates before fitting them.
- Alternate friction plates and steel plates in the original order, without leaving one out.
- Check the clutch springs and tighten to the manufacturer's torque.
- Close up with a new clutch cover gasket and fresh gearbox oil.
