Rings are the bands fitted on the piston that seal against the cylinder: they hold compression and limit oil getting past.

ATHENA offers this piston ring set for HUSQVARNA WRE 125, KAWASAKI KX 125 A, YAMAHA YZ 125 and HONDA CR 125 R from 1974 to 2018. Rings are thin steel bands sitting in the piston grooves. They press against the cylinder wall to hold compression and scrape oil.

Why replace the rings?

The benefits:

Regain compression and power.
Reduce oil consumption and smoke.
A cheap fix when piston and cylinder are still within spec.

Why choose ATHENA?

Athena, the Italian manufacturer founded in 1973, is an original-equipment supplier to manufacturers such as KTM and Ducati: the same standards for your replacement parts.

When should you replace the piston rings?

Harder starting, loss of power, blue smoke, oil consumption or a knock when cold: these are the signs of a tired top end.

Recommended hours for a top-end rebuild (manufacturer recommendation for the Honda CR 125 R / CR 250 R):

Racing: every 7.5 h.
Leisure: no Honda figure; Cross-Mania guideline: compression check at around 15 h.
