ATHENA Valve Stem Seals for POLARIS RZR 170 2009-2016

The ATHENA P400485420186 set of valve stem seals is designed for POLARIS RZR 170 from 2009 to 2016. Valve stem seals sit on top of the valve guides. They let through just enough oil to lubricate the stem and stop the rest from running down into the combustion chamber, where it would burn.

When to replace it?

• Blue smoke on start-up or after a long downhill on a closed throttle.
• Oil consumption and a fouled spark plug.
• Seals hardened or split during a cylinder head rebuild.

Every time the valves are removed: valve replacement, seat recutting or cylinder head rebuild.

Fitting tips

1. Identify the intake and exhaust seals if they are different.
2. Protect the seal lip as you slide it over the valve stem (sleeve supplied, or adhesive tape over the collet grooves).
3. Oil the lip and press the seal on straight with a suitable tool, without crushing it.
4. Refit the springs and collets, then set the valve clearance with suitable shims.
