When to replace it?

• Engine due for its rebuild hours, bottom end included.
• Bottom-end noise, con-rod play or a tired crankshaft.

Fitting tips

1. Strip down and clean the whole engine; measure the cylinder, dimensions and clearances as set out in the manual.
2. Heat the crankcases to remove and fit the bearings, pressing only on the race that is the tight fit.
3. Fit the crankshaft, close the cases with new gaskets and check that everything turns freely.
4. Fit the top end (piston, rings, gaskets) following the manual and torque everything to spec.
5. Fill up with engine oil and coolant, fit a new spark plug, then break the engine in gently for the first hour.
