When to replace it?
- Oil around the countershaft sprocket, the gear shift shaft or the kick-start.
- Lip hardened or split, or shaft marked where the seal runs.
Every time the crankcases are split, and as soon as a leak appears.
Fitting tips
- Drive out the old seal without scratching its housing.
- Lightly grease the lip and the housing.
- Press the seal in perfectly square with a tube or socket of the same diameter, lip facing the oil side.
- Protect the lip from the splines or keyways as you slide the shaft through (adhesive tape).
