      The SHOWA (tige Ø12.5 mm) SHO-3001001 fork cartridge rod seal is designed for HONDA CRF 250, CRF 450, SUZUKI RMZ 250, RMZ 450 and KAWASAKI KXF 250 from 2008 to 2012. In a cartridge fork, the damping happens inside a closed tube in which a piston rod slides. This seal keeps the oil in around the rod: once it wears, oil gets past and the damping loses effectiveness and consistency.

      When to replace it?

      • Fork damping that changes during a ride.
      • Oil getting where it shouldn't, cartridge oil level dropping.
      • Seal hardened, marked or distorted when you remove it.

      Replace this part at every full cartridge service, as set out in the fork manual. Check the diameter and dimensions listed: they must match your cartridge.

      Fitting tips

      1. Servicing a cartridge takes method and the right tools: follow the fork manual or leave it to a suspension specialist.
      2. Strip the cartridge, clean all the parts and check the condition of the rod (scratches, pitting).
      3. Fit the new part, oiled, without twisting it or damaging it on the threads.
      4. Reassemble with fresh fork oil and carefully bleed the air out of the cartridge.

      Showa was founded in 1938 in Gyoda, Japan, as Showa Aircraft Precision Works. After the war, the company put its aeronautical know-how to work on motorcycle suspension, notably for Honda, and the brand now belongs to the Astemo group, formed by a merger completed in January 2021.
