ATHENA Needle Bearing for YAMAHA YZ 80 1984-1992

The ATHENA MNB120170148 small-end needle bearing is designed for YAMAHA YZ 80 from 1984 to 1992. The small-end needle bearing lets the piston pin turn inside the connecting rod on fine steel needles. On a two-stroke, it is lubricated only by the premix: it wears quickly and, if it breaks, it destroys the piston and the cylinder.

When to replace it?

• Play between the piston pin and the connecting rod.
• Needles blued or marked, or cage damaged.
• Metallic knocking from the top end.

At every piston change on a two-stroke, and as soon as play appears.

Fitting tips

1. Check the small-end bore and the piston pin: if they are marked, replace them.
2. Oil the bearing before fitting it.
3. Fit the pin and new circlips, gap opposite the notch in the piston.
4. Reassemble the top end with a new top end gasket kit.
