When to replace it?
- Bearing noise or engine rumble.
- Play or tight spot when turning the bearing by hand.
- Signs of overheating or rust on the races.
During an engine rebuild, or as soon as a bearing shows play or tight spots.
Fitting tips
- Heat the crankcase (around 100 to 120 °C) to remove the old bearing and fit the new one without force.
- Only push on the race that is the tight fit: outer race in the crankcase, inner race on the shaft.
- Check which way round it goes if the bearing has a shielded side.
- Close up with new gaskets or a complete engine gasket kit.
