- Gasket torn or stuck on removal.
Every time the crankcases are split: bottom end rebuild, crankshaft or bearing replacement.
Fitting tips
- Clean the gasket faces without scratching or marking them.
- Fit the gasket dry, unless the workshop manual says otherwise.
- Replace the crankshaft bearings and oil seals while the cases are split.
- Tighten in a criss-cross pattern to the manufacturer's torque, then check that the crankshaft turns freely.
