JMP steering head tool

JMP offers this steering head tool. The fork turns in the frame on two steering head bearings, held in press-fitted cups. With mud, pressure-washer water and impacts, they eventually wear and the steering becomes stiff or notchy.

Why a steering head tool?

• Driver sized to the cup: it pushes on the whole outer race, never on the balls or rollers.
• Fitting with a threaded rod rather than a hammer: the cup goes in straight and its seat in the frame does not go oval.
• Castellated steering stem socket: the steering nut is tightened to the specified torque, without a screwdriver or chisel that damages it.

Cross-Mania tip: Check the cup or bearing diameter covered by the tool, clean and lightly grease the seat before fitting, and press the cup in gradually until it bottoms out, without letting it go in crooked.
