TECNIUM offers these brake shoes for YAMAHA DT 250, DT 400, XT 500, YZ 250, YZ 400 COMPETITION 1974-1995. A drum brake is made up of a hollow cylinder, the drum, which turns with the wheel, and two shoes mounted inside it on the brake backing plate.
Why fit new brake shoes?
The benefits:
- Get back strong, progressive braking, with a lever or pedal that no longer travels all the way to the stop.
- Organic lining: effective from the first few metres, even when cold, and gentle on the drum.
- Replacing the shoes in time stops their metal backing from scoring the drum, a much more expensive part.
When should you replace this part?
Thin or glazed linings, the wear indicator at the end of its range, a lever or pedal that travels further and further, or a metallic scraping noise: replace the shoes.

Cross-Mania tip: Clean the drum with brake cleaner, lightly grease the cam and pivot pin without touching the linings, replace the springs if they are tired and adjust the lever or pedal free play.
