It is made up of several layers to guarantee excellent filtration. The first layer is an aerated foam to filter out large impurities without slowing airflow. The second layer is a denser foam to filter out smaller impurities. The foam is of course flame-retardant. It is of course washable, so you always have a clean air filter.
