A yellowed, brittle or split nylon tie, or a metal clamp that is rusty, slack or, for an ear clamp, already opened once: replace it, it may let go or leak.

Cross-Mania tip: Choose a clamp whose range covers the outside diameter of the hose, place it just behind the bead of the fitting, and trim the tail of nylon ties flush, leaving no sharp edge.
