Motor oils for motocross, enduro KTM 4 stroke

Engine oils for KTM four-strokes (SX-F, EXC-F, EXC Racing, SMR): LIQUI MOLY Motorbike 4T in mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic grades (10W40, 15W50, 10W50, 10W60, 20W50) and MOTUL 7100 10W40, in 1 and 4 litre bottles and up to 20 litres.

Reading a grade: in 10W50, the first figure (before the W) shows how thin the oil is when cold, the second how well it holds up when hot. A motocross engine that revs hard needs oil that keeps its viscosity as it heats up, which is what a synthetic 10W50 or 10W60 is for. KTM usually specifies 10W50 for its recent SX-F and EXC-F models; check the grade in your owner's manual.

On these engines the oil also lubricates the gearbox and clutch, so always use a motorcycle oil rated JASO MA or MA2. Car oil, with its friction modifiers, can make the clutch slip.
